Update from All Saints’ Building Committee Chair, Heather Adams…

We have begun! After 6 years of praying, planning and saving, we have finally started the site work on our Gideon Drive property. Bulldozers started moving on the land in December and began clearing and preparing the land for the required wetlands mitigation and the construction of our storm water management pond.

Approximately 7.76 acres of land were cleared and erosion controls were put in place. Two temporary ponds were constructed as well as the main, permanent storm water management pond. The weather cooperated most of the time, although the construction crew did have to clear more acreage than had been anticipated due to wet conditions. The most important thing to note is that the work was completed before our March 18 deadline set by the Army Corps of Engineers.

We have also received an estimate for Phase One of our building, which would include completing all the site work, and building the fellowship wing, prayer and healing center wing (to include nursery, Sunday School class rooms) and the administrative wing. The total cost will be just over nine million dollars.

Unfortunately, we don’t have the money to proceed at this point. However, we are moving forward, doing what we can so that when funds become available we will be ready to act.

We have broken down the remaining site work into phases. The next phase will cost about $1.2 million and would complete most of the clearing, install sewer piping and a gravel access road with two temporary parking areas, which will give us easy access for prayer meetings and other events on the land.

Our architects, Dennis and Barbara, are working with us to compete the schematic design. Once we have approved this they will prepare the construction documents for Phase One. This way we will be ready to build as soon we receive the funds. The cost for preparing these documents will be approximately $190,000.

What you can do:

1.    Thank God that the storm water management pond has been competed on time—and slightly under budget!
2.    Thank God for the provision of funds so far. The storm water management pond cost approximately $350,000 and we have also paid down our mortgage by $750,000.
3.    Pray for the funds to complete our Phase One building.

                                                           Yours in Christ,
                                                           Heather Adams

Maintenance Help…Once again we had a very successful church work day and I want to thank all of you that gave so freely of your time and effort. However, while the workday is done, our list of things that need attention continues to grow and we need your help. The worklist includes special skill items like refinishing  wood surfaces to general thinks like cleaning walls and windows. To attack this growing list I am developing a helper list of skilled and unskilled free labor. The idea is that volunteers will be given a task commensurate with their skill level and will perform the task on their own time schedule. The church will provide all the tools and materials necessary to do the work and I will make sure you can get into the church. I am looking for people with skills in plumbing, electrical work, painting, wood refinishing, working with power tools, and cleaning just to name a few. If you have any of these skills or no skills and just a willingness to help (skilled folks always need helpers), please sign up in the book at the back of the church. If you have any questions please contact Chaz Johnson, 703.897.1550, cvs781@verizon.net.

Jim and Bea Fishback, …All Saints’ missionaries with Campus Crusade Military Ministry in Europe, will be in church with us at 11:00 on May 11. A mini gathering to greet and chat with them will be held at 4:00 pm that day in the multi-purpose room. Any questions, call Jean McCleerey, 703.670.5466.

Lost and Found...The lost and found bin is located in the upper hallway across from the Youth center. Please come claim your “lost items.” Also, there are many unclaimed serving dishes in the kitchen. Any items not claimed by May 18 will be donated to ACTS.

Youth Summer Missions Annual Yard Sale…It’s time for the annual yard sale to raise funds for the Youth summer mission trip to Standing Rock Reservation. Once again we are asking for your good “junk.” Look around for items that are in good condition but are used infrequently. Only children’s clothing will be accepted: no adult clothing donations. The yard sale will take place on Saturday, May 10 at All Saints’. If arrangements need to be made for someone to pick up an item that is too large or heavy to bring in, please contact Mario, 703.670.0093 ext. 5, msandoval@allsaintsdalecity.org.

Final Call for Volunteers…to assist in support of All Saints’ hosting 5 East African Anglican Clergy doing part of their Doctoral studies at All Saints’ during the period May 30-June 8. Transportation volunteers please contact Ed Speare, fast1edd@aol.com, 703.878.7706. Meal helper volunteers please contact Kathy Grunden, kathleengrunden@gmail.com, 703.583.9388.

Now Accepting Applications for the Position of Nursery Director…Laurie Argo, our current Nursery Director, will be joining her husband in Indiana soon. Laurie has been an exceptional Nursery Director and in many ways has helped us transition towards the kind of nursery we will need for our new church building. We will definitely miss her gracious spirit and her skills. She will continue to serve in the nursery during our transition to a new Director. The position is part-time, involves supervision of the nursery and childcare staff, scheduling, interfacing with parents and the church staff, planning simple activities and Bible stories, and other responsibilities. She reports to the Children’s Ministries Director and to Valarie Whitcomb. If interested, please see Kerry Walters to obtain an application and job description and submit the application by Friday, May 9.

Childcare Positions Now Open…We are looking to hire several childcare providers for our children in kindergarten through third grade for specific church functions. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and members of All Saints’ Church. Childcare providers would work in conjunction with the Nursery Director and Children’s Ministries Director.
